This probably the perfect post for today. I mean Beyonce did just announce that she is pregnant with TWINS. I have never been so happy to be an aunt to 3 babies. This is the best news of my life. Her pregnancy photos are just giving me all types of life. Let me not talk about all the hilarious memes that circulating right now. They had me rolling on the floor laughing. Truly, can she get any better. MIND BLOWN!!!
But this post isn't about Beyonce it's about that one irrelevant time I went to Houston, Texas. It's not irrelevant, it's that Beyonce just took away all my shine, but I'm not about it.
I was in Houston about a week ago now for my uncle's wedding and it was an absolute blast. The wedding was small so it was really just close family that was there. Let me tell you about my family. They are absolutely the funniest people that I have ever know. My dad has 6 siblings, so there are 7 including him. He has one sister. My uncles all have different personalities but they all know how to have a good time and a good laugh. They are so loving even if they never say the words. I can feel the love the second I'm around them. They all have their own families and issues to deal with but they put that aside when family is all together. We don't see each other that often anymore just because life. I have nothing but fond memories of my uncles every time I think about them. My family is continuously growing. Babies are being born and the my younger cousins are just growing up so fast and I wish I could be in every single one of their lives all the time.
As I have gotten older family has become more and more important to me. I know at some point in my life things won't always be like this but for now I try my best to have good time and create memories with them.
Back to the trip...
My best friend came with us and the way our friendship is set up is that she is my unbiological sister and my parents have basically unofficially adopted her. She is literally apart of my family. So much so that she was a bridesmaid in the wedding. I mean my parents went out of their way to get her a plane ticket and get the 2 dresses for her. She literally didn't spend a dime. When we landed in Houston we ran into Dylan's candy Factory like two little girls who have never seen candy before. we spent over $20 on candy alone. It was so fresh and delicious.
After that we of course went over to my aunt's house to see everybody before heading to the hotel to get ready for the rehearsal and dinner. If y'all didn't know I'm the biggest daddy's girl. I do think I'm growing out of it but I don't get to see my dad as often and when I do I just have to let him know how much I love him and how much he means to me. He is so kind, and loves unconditionally. I'm thankful for him in my life.
So Saturday came around and it was go time. We had our outfits ready to go and our makeup was on fleet, per usual. Since it was a Nigerian wedding we had 2 different outfit for the wedding. During the ceremony we had the traditional bridesmaid dress. It was a soft neutral pink that I picked out that went perfectly with the groomsmen navy suits. I honestly feel like I could rehear this dress again to a nice event. The on;y thing is I can't gain any weight.
During the reception it was time for an outfit change into the traditional Nigerian attire complete with the gele. It was absolutely beautiful. The fuchsia pink was a great color on everyone who wore it and the blue contrast was magnificent. Being African is so fun. The fashion is amazing. The tailor who sewed our outfits did a phenomenal job. It fit perfectly and I wasn't uncomfortable at all. I was nervous before the wedding because I didn't have time to try it on before heading to Houston. The trip was a success but by the end of the weekend I was ready to get back to Kansas City.
